I think there must be something in the water.
The current generation of young adults all grew up during a time when farmers were allowed to feed growth hormone supplements to their livestock.
At the time, the politicians from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food assured us that this wasn't a problem, as their scientific advisers had, in their turn, assured them that the procedures followed ensured that said hormones didn't actually make it into the meat by the time we ate it.
We now have a generation of unnaturally large people, which the government claims is due to better nutrition and healthcare, although they've quietly restricted the use of growth hormones in the food chain.
