The lump of iron weighed in at about 10 ton. and it had bounced off the bottom of the gate and punched a hole in it

The hole was above the waterline when we left, so nobody noticed it. but, fri night they raised the dock level and the water started filling through the hole

Had to drop the salvage pumps into the gate to keep up with the influx. get a wire strop from my machine shackled to the gate so that I could pull it up

The gate sld 2 feet while I was shackling the strop and crushed my right hand against the steel.
major mess of my hand, but I got the strop on and stopped the gate from sinking

Had to call a couple of my men in then to assist (overtime again) as I could no longer use my right hand.

Got the gate pumped out and pulled it up the bank six feet.
had to go home then and bang some sutures into my hand to close it up. Ok now
