This bally framework is now complaining about perfectly acceptable constructs - it's also something that should maybe log a warning, rather than throwing an exception and shutting the whole thing down
If they're testing for the condition before doing something, why not just not do it rather than stopping the show

Nope, a quick rootle around in the debugger reveals that it's due to some kind of fundamental brokenness - as what I'm doing is basically straight out of the docs, I blame them
Luckily, one of them will be in tomorrow, so he can at least confirm that it's not my fault, or explain whatever magic incantation hasn't made into the docs yet
Until then, I think it's and goodnight from me
