The rule is:

(age / 2) + 7

is not creepy.

So as (31 / 2) + 7 = 22.5, you're OK.

As you're a man, that is... it would be different if you were a woman.

Yeah.... I guess cos he was younger I didn't mind telling him what to do.... I'd have been intimidated by someone older...
