Tonight's viewing, as was foretold, has been Battle of Britain (1969) and the BBC had, in fact, got a better print than Amazon had managed. IIRC Amazon had also somehow managed to mess up the subtitles, such that whenever there was a scene in German (and there are quite a few) it was necessary to turn off the closed captions in order to see the English translation in the open captions; I'm not sure how they managed that, as the BBC's copy appeared to have the open captions in the print itself. Anyway, it's showing its age a bit but it's still a pretty decent film

Later, another Rumpole story was read

Monday again tomorrow, but an interesting problem came up last Thursday that I'll get to work on (assuming the other developer didn't grab it on Friday) so I don't mind too much

    Goodnight all

      Morning denizens

Sunny start, with some white fluffy bits hither and yon, and expected to continue so all day. It won't be as warm as yesterday though: 13°C now, 19° for a while this afternoon. The barometers are up again at 1002/1010mB

Why is it that when I have work on a Monday, I start thinking of all the useful and enjoyable things I could be doing with that time instead; yet when I had time off, I didn't do any of them?

Just wait until you're retired: then you realise you did more in the 3 weeks holiday than you've managed in the 3 years since..

        Morning.

        Monday.

        Drily damp.

        Sunny. .

Cooler in here at 19.1 deg, 20 in the kitchen, 18 in the leanto.

1009 mBar, 29.795 in Hg, 756.8 Torr, 14.634 psi, (up from 1005 last night), 67% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 14th of February 2020 Churchill, SimonMac, scruff, vetran, Brillo, LM, NF, and BR14 popped in with a discussion of varieties of P38 from potato peelers through aircraft to Isopon filler.

A curiously good night's sleep which was dream free IIRC, with an awakening at 08:35 which made a pleasant change.

Shopping trip to Morrisons done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away.

The attempted trip to Tesco called off due to non arrival of bus.

        Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: nothing.

In other news, it's now pissing down again. Earlier there were individual rain drops that sounded like hen's eggs dropping on the leanto roof.

Thunderbolts and Lightning, very very frightening. Well, not very as it happens. But a bit rumbly like.

        Sun came out.

Shopping trip to Tesco: 38 out 38 back. Young lady in "hot pants" got on at Neath. Nearly had a heart attack. . Could almost see the maker's name. .

Tea: Mr Brains faggots with peas & suchlike.

        Entertainment: PM <click>.

Stone me it's got so dark I've had to turn the light on, plus it's pissing down and taking no prisoners.

Much rain. Satellite signal dropped out for BBC1W, which I've never seen it do previously.

Blaze, of course, had zero signal.

Freecell score: 91%, running average: 84%.

Oak Island nutjobbery: they didn't even find wood last week. Feck nose what this week will bring: more of the metal detecting moron very likely.

        More wood.

        Bulltulipe about the Lochness monster.

        Anything else I can find.

            ^^ I remember that P38 discussion

            Afternoon all

Sunny with lumps of fluff. Currently 21 degrees ('feels like' 24) with a high of 22 expected. Chance of a shower mid afternoon. Barometer at 1016 mBar.

            Sunrise 06:25; Sunset 19:31 BST

Still not feeling great. Headachy, lack of energy, lack of appetite. I have no doubt the latter is causing the former but it's all a vicious circle at the moment. Meetings have been a struggle as I try to string a sentence together or spell things properly.

Had some Heinz chicken and vegetable soup for lunch.

Finally remembered to put some white bread on to bake!

Tea: chicken madras with rice and naan

I sometimes buy these mini-naan from Sainsbury's, thinking I'll eat less that way. But all that happens is I have two of them, which I'm pretty sure ends up equating to more than one normal-sized naan

Some good news at work today: the DM has suggested, without any prompting from me, that we try to ensure we have at least one meeting-free day every sprint! I indicated that he will have my wholehearted support for this proposition

Just as long as that day isn't on a Friday when you don't work 🙄

That was explicitly mentioned as a reason why it couldn't be a Friday!

Tonight's viewing was more fare dodgers. I think the most amusing ones are those who claim they have a ticket or railcard but they "can't get a signal" and so on as they fiddle with their phone for several minutes, before triumphantly showing it to the inspector - who then points to the date and time clearly visible on said ticket or railcard, which shows that they've just bought it after being stopped

And then another Rumpole story was read. It's interesting that the collections of these stories used to be tremendously popular, regularly appearing in the bestseller lists as far as I remember, yet now many of them are out of print. Sic transit gloria mundi

The white loaf came to fruition, and seems to be of excellent quality again! Having found that Allinson's yeast seems to work better than Sainsbury's own brand, I splashed out on some of their wholemeal flour last week, and shall see if that makes a better loaf. The Sainsbury's wholemeal flour seems to make a loaf that's acceptable, but not perhaps as good as it could be

                    Goodnight all
