Nothing wrong with making a new series based on Graves' books, but they'll have their work cut out to supplant the original. People go on nowadays about the creaky sets and the makeup, but IMHO none of that matters when you're watching it because the acting is so exceptionally good

Well, it has turned out to be not as sunny as hoped. Still dry until the evening when a downpour is expected through into tomorrow morning.

Went out for a bit to try out some frames for new glasses... it was not a happy experience: I have one of those faces that does not suit glasses, or a well lit room TBH, but such is life. I shall try one of the online merchants so that I can try keep my gurning visage private.

The highlight of today has been a call from an agent to see if I'd be interested in a role with a "provider of live streaming and on-demand video" i.e. a porn house, or supplier thereto.

I declined her kind offer and am now feeling quite virtuous.

          That market is very niche.

Well, that was a hectic, if somewhat tiresome, end to the week. See you all again Monday.

Timesheet done, and I'm declaring a weekend!

Short week next week too, as I've booked Friday off

Today wasn't too bad; I realised that a thing which seemed like it might be rather clunky to use could easily be rewritten into a Python context manager, making it very easy to use. First time I've implemented a context manager in real life, and it works beautifully. I even wrote tests for it!

"Use" in this context (pun intended) means "use from further code I'm writing", as it's quite a low level component of a bigger thing. But the other devs will almost certainly have to write some stuff to use it as well, and doing it this way eliminates a bunch of possibilities for accidentally creating trivial bugs which they'd then come to me asking for help with, so it's a definite win

That'll make two short weeks, what with the 28th being a bank holiday.

I am safely ensconced in BA's First lounge at Heathrow. Journey on the Lizzie Line was uneventful, as was all the security nonsense. My flight is delayed half an hour, looks like there was an issue in Dublin this morning that the aircraft never recovered from.

Some edibles had, now contemplating beverages.

That's the plan - as well as the Bank Holiday, I've booked the Tuesday off, so I'll have five free days altogether

Tonight's major motion picture premiere was Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019), in which everybody's favourite fairy godmother once again gets a bad press but triumphs in the end. I remember my Dad, maybe fifty years ago now, saying that the reason for Disney's success was that they had perfected the art of making movies for kids that adults enjoyed too, and this certainly fits the bill

And then a change of tone with a rewatch of Donnie Brasco (1997) which is not to be confused with that thing with a rabbit that I've never seen. This one is very good, with Al Pacino in particularly fine form as a mid-to-lower level mafioso, but features no rabbits.

Bit of rain from time to time this evening, and it seems a bit breezy out

                    Goodnight all
