    Remarkable.

    really.
that woman needs shooting in the head FFS
She nearly got shot in S1 when she walked into the squad room waving a toy pistol about.

In other news, after getting greyer and greyer it eventually rained.

Because people are thick and don't understand that the date of the Solstice varies? Or maybe because they didn't realise it was the wrong day? Once in the late 1980s we all turned up at Stonehenge for one of the equinoxes, or maybe it was a Winter Solstice, and it confused the heck out of the security guard because English Heritage hadn't realised that the occasion in question was on the 20th rather than the 21st that year. He let us in for the sunrise anyway though, and we all had a very nice time

Edited to add: maybe, as the moment of solstice was around 22:45 in the UK this year, they thought the sunrise closest to it was the right one? But it's probably just because they know that people don't understand that the Gregorian Calendar is a very imperfect model of the Solar System

Only one candidate for tonight's Summer Solstice Movie Premiere: Midsommar (2019), which is - let's be blunt - a rip-off of The Wicker Man but with a Swedish commune instead of a Scottish island and a group of students instead of a policeman. But I thought it was really good, with lots of utterly beautiful cinematography, and the story plays out really well. It takes nearly two-and-a-half hours, but I reckon it's time well spent. Highly recommended

And after that, a rewatch of Rampage (2018) because it's always nice to see a giant ape going about its business

It's been raining heavily here for the last hour or so, but it seems to have eased off now

        Goodnight all

Because they are not celebrating the solstice.

          They celebrate BrowneIssue's birthday.

          Greetings virtual peeps.

I go full-time as a permanent civil servant in the centre of government tomorrow, working on national stuff. You know, the Masters of the Dark Side. I'll put in the odd bad word about IR35, should I get the chance (although it's not that ministry). But it does mean I expect my login(s)* on here won't work any more, what with being a permie and all.

Oh, I got two degrees since I was last posting on here and I've found they are more useful in getting interviews and gigs than all those vocational qualifications and professional memberships I spent years and thousands and thousands of pounds upon. And both degrees are in the arts, studied for interest. It turns out I was wrong all along and bulltulip and bluster really are more important than proof of ability. I've just landed the most specialist techie gig I've ever had and the irrelevant degrees were essentials for selection. The world's fecked.

But it does mean I stop going out to work every day to sit in an open plan office with others as I have done every day for the past four months, to actually working from home for the first time in my life. For an employer who only met me briefly in an interview right back at the start of the year. Weird. I get to manage my own time, my own work, use my own kit and facilities. There's no leave record, no core hours, just a letter of engagement saying what I'll be working on (i.e. delivering) rather than a contract. I'm more IR35-proof now than I have been at any time since 1995! And the pension's better than that fecking rob-dog personal private one I put a fortune into which is now empty , courtesy of the finance sector bastards needing to upgrade their Beemers every year.

Anyway, I got cake to eat. Enjoy the day.

I sometimes think there's more permies here than filthy tax dodgers, so your login(s) will continue to work just fine.

Sounds like a cushy gig, have a banana:

              Morning all

Dull and grey outside. It was raining about 7am, it woke me up. Not sure what woke me up at 3.30 am.

Currently 17 degrees. Forecast of 21 later with the cloud clearing to what should be a nice sunny afternoon. Barometer is down to 1014 mBar.

                Hello stranger.

Just think what you achieve if you'd done PPE.

                Morning all

                Dry.

                Grey.

Sunny this side of the valley, black & threatening across the way.

Judging by the tosh on the wireless it must be Sunday.

The brightening up seems to be coming along nicely.

Second coffee accompanied by two digestives.
