I have watched football alongside an Italian fan. From this experience I can confirm that:

    (a) Italians can muster substantial sarcasm in terms of both quantity and quality when they put their minds to it

    (b) When they do so you will most definitely notice

Good to know! I work alongside a proud Catalan and his sarcasm game is top notch.

Having wasted about ninety minutes single-stepping through other people’s code to finally determine that an API which promised much is in fact a crock of tulip, I have consoled myself with a nice pot of tea and a toasted teacake with lashings of butter

Mmm toasted tea cakes. There's a blast from the past.

When I was about 14/15 I had a weekend job in a local cafe and there was always a run on toasted tea cakes at a certain point in the afternoon. Just at that time when the shoppers needed a sit down and a snack before the last rush to buy all the things before closing time.

Toasted teacakes. Mmm, must pick some up on the way home for breakfast for tomorrow. Even Warby's from Tesco Express will do.

                Is this thing on?

Watching BBC Four - Storyville, Jonestown: Terror in the Jungle, Episode 1

Very interesting and quite sad too. All about Jim Jones' cult and the mass suicide of the congregation in 1978 on his compound in Guyana. Started off as selling socialism in the States before fleeing to Africa when the Feds started to close in.
