And I'd add that it's not so much the money as the crashing reminder of the CovPusses' mortality - they're 11 and 14 now so getting on a bit. They've been good companions for over a decade now.

Well there's a thing.
The loft ladder From Next Door has disappeared, presumably with one or other set of builders.
My dad bought it over half a century ago & it's done sterling work ever since.
Which means I can't get up the loft In Here until I feck off out & buy another one.
Which won't be of similar quality and will probably be CE marked.
By observation from the loft hatch, there doesn't seem to be much wrong with the slates, I can probably fix a bit of it with expanding foam and another bit of slate from the inside, in the usual potcher's fixup.
