…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

Tonight's magic lantern show started with In the Heat of the Night (1967), the tale of a black cop investigating a murder in a racist Southern town, starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger. It's one of those films that I may or may not have seen on TV in the 1970s, when I was too young to appreciate it. Anyway, I didn't remember it, and it's absolutely brilliant and well deserving of its status as a classic

And after that I turned to 21 (2008), about a bunch of MIT students milking Las Vegas casinos at blackjack using card counting. It's "based on a true story", though I suspect very loosely based in many respects. The opening credits said it's based on a book, which I looked up on my phone in the Amazon app as the opening credits drew to a close. You guessed it: I bought said book in 2011, but hadn't got around to reading it yet

Anyway, the film is pretty entertaining as a caper movie after a slightly slow opening, even if some of the twists (and certain major plot elements) are a bit (and occasionally very) unbelievable, and I've hauled the book off the shelves so I can finally read it and find out how loosely based it really is. Maybe it's the unbelievable bits that will turn out to be true, for life can indeed be stranger than fiction

      Goodnight all

A friend on facebook posted a picture of their puss next to some boots and asked what panto it represented.

I have never seen a panto called "feed me now human slave".

One thing about dogs. At least they know who is boss. As long as you feed them only once a day.....

From memory (not googled, so probably wrong) it is because many years ago some of the plant extracts which went into gin were known to cause miscarriages, so sometimes women who found themselves pregnant when they didn't want to be, would quaff a lot of it.
