Is any of the assembled throng aware of what happens when you renew your passport - do you keep the same passport number, or do you get a totally different one?
Boring backstory - The 6 month validity thing will lapse whilst I am abroad in February. It'll be (just) good on the way out, but not on the way back. I can't imagine Johnny Frog refusing to let me go home under those circumstances but... I don't want to apply for a new one as a) i'm moving house soon and b) I need to book flights sharpish before they become too expensive.Comment

You don't need your passport details when you book your flight - just before you check-in...merely at clientco for the entertainmentComment
