    This evening's diversion was "Red":

    RED (2010) - IMDb

    Helen Mirren.

    Instead of a director's commentary, there's a commentary from an ex-CIA guy.

There seems to be little chance of that.

The ZeitTea this evening consisted of a couple of abalone tuna steaks from Morrisons, reduced from £4 to 25p, the recommended cooking method being shallow frying.

Since you apparently can't freeze them I cooked them both.

They were ok, but I don't think I'd have paid £4 to be honest.

Probably overcooked them but I like stuff to be dead.

Tonight, I started by watching Goldfinger, which you've probably heard of. One thing about watching these early Bond films now is just how shonky things like the car chases and various such aspects are. People aren't really satisfied with a car hitting a pile of obviously empty cardboard boxes any more, but it's still a decent enough film

Continuing the theme, I then finally got around to watching a Blu-ray that has sat on the shelf for maybe a couple of years, it being a film that I'd vaguely heard was OK. It was The Bank Job, and it turned out to be an absolute corker!

It's the true story of a safe deposit box job in Baker Street in 1971, which supposedly netted more than the Great Train Robbery but which went mysteriously underreported by the Press. (It was also allegedly the inspiration for the Hatton Garden job, but that could just be the Press making up connections for the hell of it.)

Supposedly, the reason for this silence was that the government of the day stepped in to have things kept quiet, because one of the boxes had contained photographs of Princess Margaret engaging in lesbian activities in the Caribbean, which were in the possession of Michael X, a pimp, drugs smuggler, and general lowlife gangster from Notting Hill who pretended to be a black revolutionary in the manner of Malcolm X to gain some spurious credibility in Swinging London. Throw in the ledger recording payments to bent coppers by a Soho pornographer and club owner, and there was plenty of material in those boxes that the powers that be didn't want known; which may explain why none of the more mundane proceeds of the robbery, such as cash and jewels, were ever recovered

It was only when the credits rolled at the end that I realised that it was written by Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais, of Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? fame, which explains why it had such a cracking script and story. Highly recommended

        Goodnight all

            Welcome to my world.

            I recommend ibuprofen.

It's so lovely that I've just turned it off.

            Endless horror.

              Morning denizens

Bit grey out, though the sun's managing to get a bit of electromagnetic radiation through the clouds occasionally

More having it done to him for a good portion of the film, though he managed to get a pretty brutal pagga in before the end

Thanks, I'm on little blueys (naproxen sodium). I blame yesterday's cricket.

In better news, last night our neighbours came back from holiday so we have gone from having 3 dogs here to just having The Dog (tw).

Next I am waiting for DPD. Yesterday they sent me a message saying a parcel would be delivered today and that I would receive information this morning about what time today.
                  No message as yet.
