      Afternoon all

Friday afternoon's call has been binned into next week so I can get to that London in good time.

Looking on the bright side - at least whatever it leaked on will now smell nice

I recall, once upon a time, being forced into an emergency stop by a tw@ pulling out of a junction without looking. A bag of bottles on the front seat went flying into the footwell which loosened the caps on them. I was not at all impressed. I now take the precaution of strapping them in with a seatbelt.

Hair has been pruned, and shopping done.

Attending upon me at the barber's today was the woman who does a good job but prattles constantly. She was the only one working so I avoided the risk of getting the one who doesn't do a very good job and also prattles constantly.

However, thrown into the mix were another woman, a young man maybe aged nineteen or so, and a bunch of children - maybe five or six of them, ranging from about seven to eleven at a guess. As far as I could determine these were friends or relations who were merely there to chat to her while she worked, occasionally breaking off to tell one or other child not to do whatever they were about to do or had just started doing. So she spent a lot of time prattling to them (though occasionally including me in the conversation to the extent of explaining something about someone who wasn't there - "Jez is my cousin on me mam's side", that kind of thing), all of which saved me the trouble of having to reply much, or at all

Surely that just helps you decide which one to drink first

Luckily mine are completely intact, apart from the one just opened, ahhhhh......

Following up now with pimps from two interviews in the last week.

One is local and ok-ish rate (not far off my preferred bottom line, but meh), pretty straightforward work but being close to home means I don't mind too much. At the bottom of their JD they'd even had to put in an estimate of the day rates they expected (using it to justify this being a "specialist" role and not something they can do with an hourly temp) - and I was pleased to note I was about smack in the middle of that range. Of course at the end of the interview there was the usual guff about sorting a quick decision inside two working days.

A week down the line the pimp phones up and rah rah they want to offer it to you - well done! One thing though, they're complaining about the rate. We're on a fixed 8% of course so nothing in it for me - could you possibly drop to the bottom of their range? They're not sure they'll have the budget to get the project done on your rate blah blah.

Nope, sorry. Bottom line is bottom line!

The other one who I spoke to yesterday morning - not so close, rate also a bit pants but in my acceptable spectrum - had also been on about his high workload, need to get someone in right away, by the end of the week really. Didn't really ask me any questions in the interview, just seemed to think I was a good fit. All well and good but the pimp had been ringing the phone off the hook in the run up to the interview. Now no one wants to pick up or be in the office.

I suppose them doing a bit of due diligence beats me getting to site and finding naff all to do! Ah the fun of life on the bench!

I'm not drinking any beer until my cold has gone.

And the other bottles are presents.

I did phone the nice man at Sainsburys and explained only one had leaked. He said bring it back and swap it but there was only one bottle left of that type on the shelves. So I won't know if it is/was a suitable present...
