Don't expect to see anything other than the Olympics on bb1 or bbc4 until the fuss is over.
We may win more medals in sitting down or aiming sports with less Russians.

I just had to go to the kitchen to get my reading glasses. I never read in the kitchen

The tip has been visited, and most of the bulky stuff disposed of. The tea trolley has been granted a provisional reprieve, on the grounds that it might come in handy. So in about ten years I'll finally get around to chucking it, having never used it between that day and this

Then came the grand moving of the old, broken fridge-freezer that's been blocking out half the light from the (luckily very large) kitchen window for the last twelve years, having been operational for maybe five of those. That's been moved to a newly-open space near the door, for easy collection by the junk people when I get them round.

The floor where it rested is not a pretty sight. Apart from anything else, I have confirmation that the mice were not just running behind it (I caught quite a few with traps at either end of the back) but also having a wild time underneath it

The area has now been drenched in anti-bacterial cleaning spray and left to dry off as an initial step towards sorting it out. If I hadn't just got a new fridge, I'd be tempted to put the damn thing back and pretend I'd never seen beneath it. But the fridge's temporary home will be there, so clean it I must

Speaking of cleaning, the electric steam "mop" thing I bought on a whim a year or two ago has turned out to be excellent at dealing with the challenges thrown at it by all this uncovering of floorspace that hasn't been accessible in years

This one died before they ever showed up. I suspect that standing with its back to the window, which faces roughly west-by-north and gets a lot of sun on summer evenings, didn't help. But there wasn't anywhere else it could fit and still be in reach of a plug

Hence getting separate fridge and freezer this time, neither of which is tall

I emptied a big box today. Feeling quite proud of my productivity.

The fridge has been moved into position and plugged in, awaiting its Grand Switching On in the morning

And Barney, the banana-waving ape fridge magnet, has migrated across to his new home, so that's the most important business taken care of
