Evening Nick. My first meeting starts in 20 mins. The attendees are already arriving.
Japanese efficiency - they arrive early for meetings, but send faxes between departments because they don't like to email.

Patrick McKenzie, an American who lives in Japan, has a lot of good stories about their odd (to us) business ways, e.g. Doing Business In Japan | Kalzumeus Software

On the subject of a salaryman's lifestyle: "Depending on one’s company, this overtime may be compensated or “service overtime” —“service” in Japanese means “thrown in for free in the hopes of gaining one’s further custom”, so your favorite restaurant might throw in a “service” desert once in a while or you might do 8 hours of “service” overtime six nights a week for 15 years."

                    Goodnight

Started to read it on the 1/2 hour break I'm getting while the translator (who will also be the trainer) is off at another meeting.
Very interesting read, but I'm not planning to move to Japan, much as I love its food and culture.
