Well, by dint of an email, ZeitSis managed to wheedle her way out of driving to the sunny metropolis of Port Talbot wherein resided the will by sending an email to the solicitor.

So I went and got it after a hissy fit while attempting to find the death certs which were cunningly hidden in plain sight by ZeitSis.

As for the applying for probate, this will have to wait for the filling in of forms PA2 and IHT207(2008).

It's a cunning ploy to have an interactive PDF that you can fill in & can't save.

Do you need probate? My (very limited) understanding is that if ZP left all his worldly goods to ZM, and his share of said worldly goods <= £325K, you don't need probate.

We've decided to do the legwork ourselves - sending off certificates to everyone and getting statements of value, then hand it over to the solicitor to fill out the appropriate forms (for £650+VAT). Need to get jewellery/antiques and flat valued too. On the plus side, it seems we can also get my father's allowance passed on - so we can go to £650K before inheritance tax (won't be anywhere near that, but will be on the borderline for the 325 so saves us worrying).

I've stuck £10 of the stuff in the ZeitFiat in the last 3 weeks.
