The gout improved noticeably over the afternoon, to the extent that I felt able to try heading to Sainsbury's even without painkillers (they being one of the things I wanted to buy).

I eventually managed to get a shoe on the foot and set off, whereupon a new problem became apparent: all the limping and hobbling of the last few days has apparently caused my knee some issues. I found that I could walk fairly limp-free in a way that my knee was happy with, but which involved putting my weight on the most painful side of my foot. Alternatively, I could keep the weight off that side by limping, but then my knee threatened to give out every few steps

I ended up alternating between the two at random individuals, depending on which felt worse at the time, and using the trolley as a kind of wheeled Zimmer frame meant I got around the aisles and back across the car park without mishap. However, I'm left uncertain about whether to risk going to the pub tonight

I've taken a couple of ibuprofen, so I'll see how that goes

Don't think I'll be going out tonight though. Knee still felt a bit wobbly as I was making dinner. If it whinges about walking up and down the kitchen, I doubt it'd be too happy about the mile to the pub

Have now totally lost track of wot day it is.

              Did washing.

Shedloads of shirts, socks & underwotsits, towels & stuff done.

Now drying in the ZeitTumbleDrier a.k.a. the sitting room with fan heater & dehumidifier.

Mother seemed in relatively good spirits today, if rather more confused and forgetful than usual. I think maybe she forgot to be miserable.

She's now in the 'step down' unit (half way between High Dependency and ward), so think I may risk a glass of wine and assume I'm not going to get an emergency call out.

There's a lot of debate on the subject.

is one opinion, but I haven't seen any actual proof.
