The gout improved noticeably over the afternoon, to the extent that I felt able to try heading to Sainsbury's even without painkillers (they being one of the things I wanted to buy).
I eventually managed to get a shoe on the foot and set off, whereupon a new problem became apparent: all the limping and hobbling of the last few days has apparently caused my knee some issues. I found that I could walk fairly limp-free in a way that my knee was happy with, but which involved putting my weight on the most painful side of my foot. Alternatively, I could keep the weight off that side by limping, but then my knee threatened to give out every few steps
I ended up alternating between the two at random individuals, depending on which felt worse at the time, and using the trolley as a kind of wheeled Zimmer frame meant I got around the aisles and back across the car park without mishap. However, I'm left uncertain about whether to risk going to the pub tonight
