Only by accident. When I was about 9 I went shopping for my mum and absent-mindedly put The Beano into the shopping bag rather than the basket. I was half way home when I it was there.

It was one of those shops that was full of signs about shoplifters being prosecuted (such signs weren't so common in 1971) and as a result I was too frightened to go back and pay for it - I had visions of them refusing to believe that I'd taken it by accident and calling the police

If they hadn't had all those signs they'd have got their money. A little trust goes a long way...
