For a diode, it's generally 2 pads.
For a transistor, it's 3 pads.
For an IC it's 8, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24 etc. pads.
For this surface mount abortion of a gsm modem it's 52 pads.
22 down one side, 8 along the top, and 22 down the other.
Just to make things worse, the leads on the component are mostly underneath, which will make soldering the POS a major trial.
Once it's blown up, I can order something easier to work with.Comment

Can you solder some little wires to the contacts? Or is that far too botch-cowboy for an academic institution?
