I found some 8088 chips in stores.

I briefly considered building something to put them in, but I haven't found anywhere that sells the support chips any more (I8284 clock generator and the bus controller chip).

At least I can still use the myriads of Z80s that are hanging about.

      And the odd 6502.

      Or the 8085.

      Or the 6809.

And there's shedloads of static rams to make the interfacing easy.

C is a sod of a language but I did think it was pretty.

Z80 assembler. I wasn't very good at that but never tried programming 'em with C . Bit of a Motorola girl when I were a proper sw eng.

Did some Z80 assembler on CP/M systems.

I've got an IAR z80 compiler somewhere. £1000 for two floppy disks.

I spent years programming the 6303, which is an enhanced version of the MC6803.

And the MC6805LOTSOFLETTERSICAN'TREMEMBER for a telephone which isn't an enhanced version of anything.

And more years programming the 8080/8085.

I still remember the shock of encountering 8086 assembler for the first time. It was like a completely different language.

          And now there's the PIC.
