This morning it's the "go through every resistor value in the stores list to see if I can make my 555 timer perform according to the spec I was given".

And one has managed to let the magic smoke out of a 555, which is unusual because 555s are robust.

The idea that one might use two resistors in series to make up a value that isn't in the stores list appears to be entirely novel.
