This morning it's the "go through every resistor value in the stores list to see if I can make my 555 timer perform according to the spec I was given".
And one has managed to let the magic smoke out of a 555, which is unusual because 555s are robust.Comment

I have an ever growing pile (or hemorrhoid) of discarded components returned by esteemed customers in their desperate attempt to fulfil the conditions of their assignment.
The idea that one might use two resistors in series to make up a value that isn't in the stores list appears to be entirely novel.Comment
