digging back into my memory it was one where the character was ex soviet front and was about to fight in korea. probably a mid to late novel? i don't know anything about sven hassel other than that and the image of the covers his publishers gave his paperbacks.

I am reading "A Life on the Hop" by some CAMRA beer writer.

He mentions the good soldier Švejk - it is relevant to one of the breweries or brewing towns.
