Sorry to hear that : my kids were upset when they lost their hamster "lovely tinky". Though their fascination with seeing the dead body stopped them from crying. Kids can be so morbid.....

Our neighbours came back fro holiday to dead goldfish. They sat their children (aged about 6) down and explained. The reaction?

"Kewl! Can we play with them?"
