When I'm feeling unusually happy, I type "FORTRAN" into jobserve.

    That usually corrects my mood...

Turns out that it's because the 78L05 isn't man enough to start the +/-15V converter with an additional 10k load...

So it sits there with 1.9V output & gets very hot instead.

      I love things like that.

      Ho hum.

There are days when I read ZG's posts and wonder just what language he's using, cos I dont understand a bloody word of it

          It's quite simple really.

          There's this little regulator thingie, a 78L05.

It's got a maximum output of about 100mA or so.

When I've got my super new LED indicator connected to the + & - 15V outputs, the additional 10k load is enough to stop the switchmode psu connected to the 78L05 from starting properly coz it now requires more than 100mA.

So the 78L05 sits there getting very flustered & hot.

Which I proved by burning my thumb on it...

I suspect a redesign using mosfets will "cure" this startup problem... (mostly because I can then use 1M resistors instead of 10k ones.

          Sorted.

          Or something...

About £10/month PAYG for me... I seldom use up the amount of call credit and texts I get for that
