I'm watching The Toughest Pubs in Britain on Sky 3, for want of anything better to do.
"After the break..." is a pub I know in the city centre. I've been in there once, which was quite enough for me
It was actually quite a friendly crowd, but I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of any of them, including the women
Mind you, it was the landlord's birthday so there was a big party going on, including karaoke - maybe that put them in a good moodComment

...And, logging back into my Mac, I mistype my password
Do you know what a Mac does when that happens?
No nasty message in red text in the login dialog. No dialog overlaid on the login dialog to give you a nasty message, which has to be dismissed before you can start again
Instead, it shakes the dialog box from side to side a few times, like a stern doorkeeper shaking their head and saying "You're not coming in 'ere with that password!"
It then blanks out the contents of the password field and leaves the focus there, ready for you to try again
It's things like that that make the differenceLast edited by NickFitz; 30 December 2008, 02:10.Comment

Speaking of doormen, the doorman at the FMB bar was very disgruntled tonight.
His overlords had assumed that, as it was a Monday, he'd be fine on his own (as he normally is). Of course, being the Monday between Christmas and New Year, the place was ridiculously busy, and he was stressed out trying to cover both the outside and the inside. Although it was actually a very nice polite laid-back crowd inside (I used the term "bourgeoisie" to describe them), that doesn't mean he hasn't got to keep an eye on things.
He's going to insist on having backup tomorrow, and I don't blame him.Comment

There was also some weird nonsense going on at my local at about 23:20 - frankly it was too bizarre to describe in detail, but having some fifteen-year-old alcopop-wielding chav (one of three) who'd barged in off the street to fight with somebody (who thought I was the doorman and was trying to hide behind me until he realised I was reading a book) tell me to "Watch it, mate" shortly before he was slung out on his ear by a twenty-something year old barmaid who's currently studying for a Master's degree was rather amusingLast edited by NickFitz; 30 December 2008, 02:36.
