I'm smack in the middle of bringing up four kids, with all the endless funding that requires, so dreams of a distant future are very vague at the moment. My eldest is 16 and my youngest is 5, so by the time the youngest is 18 we will have had one or more children in the house for 30 years. That's purely down to stupid planning (or no planning at all).

But the day after his 18th birthday I see myself loading a few essentials on my bike and setting off to cycle off around Europe for a few years with a credit card in my pocket. The challenge now is to remain fit and healthy enough to be able to do that when the time comes, and to keep hold of enough cash to fund it. I'll be 55 years old by then, and will have been sitting at a desk all day long for about 25 years, but fingers crossed I'll still have some sort of locomotive capability.

That's a damn good aspiration. Good luck.

Maybe I'll bump into you on a dusty track in some French backwater...

        I really dont know.

On one hand I want all debts paid off, a house on a river, with a boat, I like that "no shoes" thing mentioned, the ability to sit and have a 6 hours tea outside with non stop wine evey night....that all sounds pretty good.

But on the other hand....that mad house with 4 kids sounds like much more fun. I dont know if I'll ever be truly happy until I try and fight my way through a house where little katy is fighting with bobby and crying cause he stole her doll and wont give it back, whilst being chased by 2 dogs, and jack is runnign round like a loon cause his lizard has escaped, whilst the oldest daughter is screaming at everyone cause she's lost her pink sweater.....

Doubt I'll ever have the second one though, so I guess I'll have to settle for the boat thing
        The pope is a tard.

And you can finally get rid of that evil car because you won't have to ferry him to school any more.

Become a rock star, tour the world, earn a wage that makes contracting look like a paupers wage, stuff myself full of drugs, shag every fit woman I see and never think about IT again.

Short term - Live off passive income and be financially free within the next 2 years.

Long term - Enjoy a life of relaxation and comfort with minimum effort, create some jobs for other people and put some time toward philanthropic activities.

I aspire to people who act on their dreams and achieve them.

New life abroad with money in your pocket?
Flash life in the city with string of beauties?
Simple life with no debts and plenty of folding to splosh on luxuries?

What makes the long commute, long hours, boring projects and idiot permies worth putting up with?
Number 4 for me, please, and I won't even need much for luxuries provided that:
                    a) I have an always on internet connection and the possibility to order my books, music etc. from Amazon and the like
                    b) I can live in a location remote enough to enjoy the peace and unspoilt environment yet accessible enough to receive the stuff ordered in a) relatively quickly
                    c) I have easy access to the sea and nice scuba-diving places to explore
                    d) Mrs BI is (truly) happy to give up the various EastCoronationSide soaps, pseudo-reality or (non)celebrity shows and the occasional trip to the shopping mall for all of the above

Failing that, a blissful state of ignorance and total insensitivity to the world and the various existential problems that affect our lives of (ultimately) lonely beings on this planet would do. (How much does it cost to have a lobotomy nowadays?)

Nice seeing you all again, anyway.
