I was doing my usual volunteer thing at a windmill yesterday and they were using a drone to inspect some of the external woodwork at the top. It took some great pictures.

There are a couple of concerns about drones - safety and privacy. Mind you, the threat to privacy is not as bad as we will have when
somebody invents a tiny, remotely-operated submarine that can navigate through the sewers.

These historic sex abuse allegations go on an on.

Apparently art experts now have a much more sophisticated device for seeing all that has been painted on a canvas, even when it has been totally covered. They have used it on the Mona Lisa and unconfirmed leaked reports allege that "the painting covers child porn, suggesting that Da Vinci may have painted it in a hurry to hide the original painting when he received a tip-off that he was about to be raided by Vatican officials"

PS Note use of allege and quotes to avoid being sued by Leonardo. Do not repeat the above as fact in the absence of firm confirmation.

Eating my breakfast this morning and it suddenly occurred to me what the meaning of life was. Then, when I got up to make myself a coffee, I forgot what it was. Don't you hate it when that happens?

Coming soon - the CUK just for you

Don't know why nobody has done this before.

I wrote a little prog. the other day to extract the essential info in this thread and convert it to bloggoth format (i.e. full of ancient deprecated HTML suitable for IE5 or earlier) just in case I might use any of it. Pretty straightforward, took under 30 mins.

It was an offline program but I got to thinking how easy it would be create an online CUK filter page in PHP and jscript. Just load the CUK page into a hidden Iframe, apply appropriate filters before copying to the main page, and you could just look at the threads and comments that you wanted to look at. For me, I would have a Br**** filter and avoid all those irritating threads by the usual suspects just repeating stuff we can see in the news anyway. And block stuff by certain users too, better than the ignore list as you could avoid even seeing their name and block admins.

One slight problem obviously, the general forum would be as sparse as a sparse thingy in a very sparse whatsit. (Too lazy to look up Blackadder for inspiration here)

              Sniffer dogs

Most of us lose things from time to time but it gets worse when you turn into an old fart, I probably spend 80% of my day looking for my reading glasses.

Maybe it would be a good idea to buy a retired police sniffer dog and use its skills to find things for you. Of course they will have been trained in specific areas, like searching for drugs or dead bodies, but that wouldn't be a problem for some of us. Every time you put your glasses down somewhere, make sure you leave a box of cocaine or a corpse nearby and your dog will find them in no time.

Another worry is that a group of children walk out in front of your car. Does it run over the children or crash into a lamp post killing you?

I would program it to squash the kids personally. Why harm a poor little lamp post?
