I think he’s got bugger all hard evidence of anything from that period apart from a dim and distant memory of being in a Scheme that HMRC want a real-life solid chunk of.
He’s got nothing, nada. No bank statements, no evidence of employment, not even the memory of his day rate. Nowt but the HMRC demand, so he has absolutely no proof that the demand is accurate or not.

As the poster seems to be in Oz I think HMRC would have real trouble enforcing debts that far back - I am sure there have been some CUK threads on this? Of course, having UK property would enable HMRC to get round this.Comment

I concluded my affairs in the UK in 2015.
So it does make it problematic, all I have is some of the tax returns so I guess that is my basis.Comment

08/09 is closed its the other years 03-08
Waiting to hear back what he thinks of what I have cobbled together - yep its the property that makes it difficult. I just got it valued.

I fear many people in many juristrictions who have NO idea that this happening may be on the receiving end of such letters (and past the deadline)Comment
