    SH was certainly a nice guy. Apparently his men went round taking people entirely at random and they were never seen again, alive anyway. You would have been unwise to show lack of enthusiasm for Stalin or (my hero) Adolph but I don't think either of them went that far.

      Whoever imagined he would be seen as the lesser of two evils.

        Mrs BP. Having grown up in the middle east (well going to school in England) she describes the arab countries as brutal and uncultured. And needing a dictator to keep them in line.

        I never ever thought I would miss SH. But Mrs BP was right.

          So what first attracted her to you?

              Will no-one defend Blair to make an interesting thread?

              Let me try.

              <thinking>

              Actually, you are all correct.

              Carry on.

                Here's an inneresting piece of information I picked up off the radio the other day - and bear this in mind if, at some point over the coming days, Blair or any of his Nu Labour co-conspirators voice their support for our boys in Brazil:

                They were saying that Blair and Campbell wanted England to lose in 96 in the European cup just in case it gave Major a boost in the polls and they had to restrain themselves from laughing when we got knocked out.

                  Who is "they"? Was it someone in the room with Blair and Campbell when England got knocked out?

                  It seems a little naive to think that if England had won on 30th June 1996, that would have given Major a sufficient boost to have any influence over the May 1997 election, which had a majority of over 250 and nearly 4 million more votes.

                    "They" were a couple of metrosexual media studies graduates on local radio of whom I'd never heard and they were so anodyne that I have no wish to hear them again.
                    But, what they were talking about wasn't hearsay - it's all in Campbell's autobiography.

                      So, Scot doesn't support England at the football shocker.

                      "TB said could you save any celebrations until you get home? I said don’t pretend you feel any different" hardly equates to "Blair and Campbell wanted England to lose in 96 in the European cup"
