Because there's generally a queue, so it's nice to have someone to talk to while you're waiting. -
Here's a question: if you're in a sealed box and weightless, how would you measure the gravitational force? i.e. how would you tell you're in a weightless environment in orbit, rather than a genuine zero-g environment in deep space, or at the L1 Lagrangian point between two bodies?Originally posted by EternalOptimist View PostHeh he. bl**dy astronauts spreading myths.
The gravity on the space station is about 9 tenths of that on the earth. Much higher than even the moon.

this proves that its the way that the brain is wired thats the problem. How can you tell ? well you cant, your senses would tell you the same whether you were weightless due to freefall(ie in orbit) or weightless due to to zero gravityOriginally posted by d000hg View PostHere's a question: if you're in a sealed box and weightless, how would you measure the gravitational force? i.e. how would you tell you're in a weightless environment in orbit, rather than a genuine zero-g environment in deep space, or at the L1 Lagrangian point between two bodies?(\__/)

Why does the handrail on an escalator go ever so slightly faster than the steps so you end up at 45 degrees when you step off?Comment

If it went at the same speed as the steps it would get left behind.Originally posted by stek View PostWhy does the handrail on an escalator go ever so slightly faster than the steps so you end up at 45 degrees when you step off?Comment

Because it is longer than the steps but has the same number of revolutions per hour.Originally posted by stek View PostWhy does the handrail on an escalator go ever so slightly faster than the steps so you end up at 45 degrees when you step off?The material prosperity of a nation is not an abiding possession; the deeds of its people are.
