The future as I've said before is going to be divided into the cognitive elite (who'll be able to afford up-coming biologic interventions which make them even cleverer) and an underclass of drongos.Originally posted by doodab View PostExcept they don't. The half a million figure is the total number of people coming in to the UK, which includes both British people returning from abroad and the many foreigners who only stay for a short time. About 450,000 non-British people arrive and 180,000 move on every year, making the number of those "settling" somewhat closer to half the figure Mr Farage quoted.
The former will cluster into urban hubs and hire a substrata of the latter to protect them from the increasing feral attentions of the mainly rural based drongos.Hard Brexit now!

No you called it a lie and it wasn't. You were incorrect and arrogant so nothing new. The rest is BS & Bluster.Originally posted by sasguru View PostWell in any country you'll have people coming in and out.
I bet the figure is much the same for any large, open economy.
The NET figure shows you what is sustainable in terms of infrastructure and is what matters.
Clearly if the population was being added to by half a million a year that would be unsustainable - which is exactly what he implied was happening.
FFS I would have thought that was obvious but apparently I've made my usual mistake of over-estimating the intelligence of the cretins in the general public.
It is 200,000 net a year but 0.5 million new people a year. If you are looking merely at growth of population you need to include the figures of births to recent immigrants which is set at 200,000. So that is 400,000 assuming under reporting which its been proven again & again is quite common on these figures you are pretty close to half a million.
Sewage proves population figures are Tuilp
but whatever way you look at it we have 500,000 new people coming in a year and 300,000 going out so 800,000 changed relationships and serious change in the community..Last edited by vetran; 23 May 2014, 15:57.Comment

Quite a lot are workers but a similar number are students. So we could reduce the figure considerably by preventing foreigners paying for an education here, but then we'd probably need to increase taxpayer subsidy of the education system.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostICT workers for exampleWhile you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. Well, in a roundabout way, yes. Like it or not, legal or not, some of will come to northern Europe looking for work. Some will be the bright ones, which is great for us, others will be waiters and cooks (I hope), which will improve our restaurants, but some will be, well, to put it nicely, people with limited opportunities in a highly developed economy. Plus; we need people to buy our stuff; unemployed kids in southern Europe aren't going to do that.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostEmploying the unemployed of Europe is our problem? And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? It was a lie to insinuate that the population of Britain is being added to by half a million a year. Which is clearly the image he wanted to convey for the hard of thinking.Originally posted by vetran View PostNo you called it a lie and it wasn't...Hard Brexit now!

They do, he told the truth. It may not be what you perceive as the reality but the statement was true. If you can show the majority were returning brits then you might have some sort of point, but they weren't.
As a politician he will pick figures that show him in the best light, now I thought the Media savvy would know such things.

it was a fact, he is a politician he used it. Just as the other parties use the Net figure to hide the level of migration.Originally posted by sasguru View PostIt was a lie to insinuate that the population of Britain is being added to by half a million a year. You are supposed to be stats expert who is precise, you obviously aren't. You inferred something because of your prejudice.Comment

or we can do what the Tories did and tighten it up so one room colleges with thousands of students can no longer abuse the Visa system. Now if only you could stop them overstaying, not attending and working illegally it might be even lower.Originally posted by doodab View PostQuite a lot are workers but a similar number are students. So why don't we pick the ones we need and refuse entry to the rest?Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostWell, in a roundabout way, yes. I quite like the idea of every country jettisoning the Euro, reducing the influence of the state, opening up competition and negotiating free trade deals across the EU and THEN allowing free movement of labour.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment
