You should have done your ground work and research before you went. Is that your first time working in Holland? The problem with what you are doing is that the Dutch Company that you worked for will now think twice before taking on UK contractors. When I worked Holland I got really tiered of some UK contractors coming out and then in a matter of weeks getting home sick running home. If you can’t hack it, don’t do it.

i think the problems started when the agency who got me out here, were basically filling me full of bare faced lies.

The lies.
1. payment terms - you will be paid every week.
2. accommodation terms - you have an apartment 7 days a week.
3. the project - stable as, loads of work.
4. new project - false promises.

The truth.
1. payment terms - 30 days, sometimes even longer.
2. accommodation terms - only for when you are working, you have to pay out of your own pocket for the time you are not working.
3. the project - too much work, third-party developers under resourced - company collapses.
4. new project - thrown into a new 70k project, like leading sheep to the slaughter. false promises cannot deliver the work due to third party shutting down. i look like a tit.

Err not quite Milan. Ive had a bad rung of it this year. 3 projects, 1 of which was particulary harrowing. The others, well, just typical IT contracts really.

It is interesting for me though, my best projects where the ones in London. Since contracting outside of London, the projects seemed to involved some very interesting 'old skool' IT characters. Very amusing, and yes your right, some of my experiences would be great in a book one day.

Oh well, maybe just maybe....
