I have not done any LARPing for a couple of years but I would love to go back. Most recently I played a WW2 gave where I was a Colonel, great fun and I even managed not to die.

Nah, would not have fitted the (surprisingly strict) game requirements Was a Colonel in the Welsh Fusiliers and was a project manager on the Tube Alloys project.

It was a great game. They organisers used samples of our handwriting gained by having us submit in character applications to the project to create a font which they used to write documents. We later found these documents in the game in our own hand writing which was actually pretty creepy. Especially the guy who found a suicide note he had 'written'.

Interview on Wednesday apparently went well!

They have just made an offer! £60k but no benefits
20 days holiday a year but apparently that can be pushed up to 25.

32 mile commute each way but working hours are completely flexible and not determined on a total count (as long as the work is done they don't care when you do it).

Older technology as they have to support mainframes but the chance to work on everything from GUIs to network drivers so no real chance of getting bored but chances to keep using the new features of C++ and boost will be very limited.

Is the contracting market picking up though?

Compared to 300-400 once you subtract travelling expenses, I would say pretty good.

Contracting market actually seems okay I guess but only in London which is a 90 minute commute for me.

That basically knocks out being able to get my children up, dressed and take them to school/nursery and knocks out being able to pick them up from there or take them to their clubs etc.

Overall unless this place makes a good offer I am probably going to take this (assuming they go for the 25 days holiday, that is a half term holiday in difference!).

I'm 90 minutes from London as well and almost all of my work is there, but I now don;t take work that demands on-site presence every day. Dropped the little one off at school this morning and now on the way down by train. Three days at home next week. When I've been in London 9 to 5 days per week, it's been pretty destructive, but the war chest was getting low so needs must etc.
