The point of UKIP as far as I am concerned is to give the established political class a kick up the arse to actually do something about the EU. It is likely that many politicians from all three parties will eye the EU as a gravy train on which to jump once their political careers at Westminster are over.

Does anyone really think Cameron Clegg and Twat would have pushed for any sort of reform had it not been for UKIP?

Discredit and smear UKIP all you like but they represent far more than just your average "little englander". The people who intend to vote for them are more likely to hold their position when people like some of you sneer at them.

The polls show that most UKIP voters are not exercised so much about the EU as by immigration.

It's human conditioning. It's why it amuses me to see people try so hard to discredit something with so much prejudice and anger, and then find out that even more people are attracted to it than before. Long may they continue!

I don't think I try to "discredit UKIP with so much prejudice and anger" so much as having thought about it, I don't see what their solutions are, since they haven't articulated any policies clearly.
A single issue party who want to withdraw from the EU, which is still our biggest market - and now starting to recover having swallowed its German medicine (we haven't taken our medicine BTW, just cheated by printing money).
It's all very vague about what we do afterwards - have more links with India and China? Will they want to? Why should they when Euro markets will dwarf our puny little island's? etc etc etc.

So what exactly will Farage and his group of MEPs do once they get their wish? Their gravy train will no longer exist and unless they kick out the sitting incumbents in their constituency then I presume they'll go onto benefits and claim from the welfare state that will no longer exist
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Oh, I totally agree with your erudite viewpoint but then I look at all this as one big puppet show. Europe is a big market and always will be. The rest is just political grandstanding and MSM driven sensationalism. Leading on to:

They will do exactly as all the parties do. Talk a slightly different shade of bollocks on the TV, make some noise, lobbyists will lobby, taxes will be paid, papers will be printed and absorbed by the masses and all the meanwhile the state will silently keep on getting bigger.
