I think this is the point. Unfortunately for GG's cousin, Honda are not making the stuff that people want to buy; that's a management problem for which unfortunately the factory workers will end up paying if the management don't get their bloody act together and figure out what people do want to buy.Originally posted by sasguru View PostSo why have JLR's exports to Europe increased by a whopping 12% this year?
And Nissan's too, I believe.
Something to do with the fact that they make desirable products?
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

Every country wants different reforms and funnily enough they are not all the same. The EU should return itself to a free trade zone with individual countries competing with each other for investment. There should also be free movement of labour (which is why I wont vote for UKIP when it comes to the general election). How hard can it be?Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostNo, reform. The polls in Germany are also showing that a majority there want powers transferred back home, as do the polls in Holland; there's never been a better moment to push for change.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

As far as I know Honda's sales are holding up in the rest of the world and they haven't had to close any plants elsewhere.Originally posted by sasguru View PostSo why have JLR's exports to Europe increased by a whopping 12% this year?

In the case of JLR, I'd venture that it's a premium brand and sales are doing well in northern European countries where people aren't feeling the pinch as much as the club med economies where Honda have lost a lot of sales.
Nothing to do with the product. It's just a different driver profile altogether.Comment

Arranged by directive 1968/360/EEC of the European Economic Community, which was simply copied into a similar EU directive in 2004.Originally posted by Gittins Gal View PostHe could have done that pre-EU. As I did, for 6 months in Italy in 1989.
Actually I think it's all gone too political since the EEC became the EC then the EU, but now you've had free movement of labour for a long time, for crying out loud's sake, keep it.And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

See my post above. Nissan is in the same market as Honda and sales are booming in Europe.Originally posted by Gittins Gal View PostAs far as I know Honda's sales are holding up in the rest of the world and they haven't had to close any plants elsewhere.

Basically you're talking crap - the car market in Europe is fine - if you make good products. That's something the Germans always knew and something we're starting to learn with the help of Johnny Foreigner.
"Mr Mann said that in December the market for new cars in France had beaten expectations. Spain had also performed well after the government extended an incentive programme to scrap old cars.
Germany, on the other hand, remained “fairly flat” but Mr Mann added that Europe’s largest economy was “still a relative powerhouse” for car sales. Nissan’s UK division exports 80pc of its production, with the majority of these cars destined for the European market. "Last edited by sasguru; 4 April 2014, 09:35.Hard Brexit now!

You still haven't explained why the brand is holding up in the rest of the world and has only tanked in Europe.Originally posted by sasguru View PostSee my post above. Nissan is in the same market as Honda and sales are booming in Europe.

No doubt you'll blame on the Americans having a penchant for crap cars like Honda

I don't need to explain it - Honda's management needs to, instead of making excuses. Basically if your direct competitors are doing well in a so-called tanked economy, you need to ask yourself some serious questions.Originally posted by Gittins Gal View PostYou still haven't explained why the brand is holding up in the rest of the world and has only tanked in Europe.

And yes the Yanks do have a penchant for crap cars.
In the motor industry, Europe is seen as the most discerning market, so much so that Chrysler has to sell some cars in Europe in order to be credible in China ( or so I was reading in Jalopnik about their latest BMW-challengers.)Last edited by sasguru; 4 April 2014, 09:46.Hard Brexit now!
