80% would go to Gay wedding. Is that not huge progress since 1967?

(ca. 20% would also support dirty tactics of the parties like UKiP and BNP. Flick em!)
If UKIP are the answer, then it must have been a very stupid question.

Seems like a totally irrelevant point to make. It's true, but I don't see what bearing it has here. A mother and son are equal but you probably wouldn't approve of them getting married

Forcing the church to conduct these events I think will be mean spirited but I'm sure there's some nasty little common purpose brainwashed Stalinist rubbing his hands together at the prospect of a bit more subversion for the cause.
I'm amazed the government has brought in this law and allowed for, or at least not made it clear, discrimination by the church. No matter how you look at it, for a church to refuse someone for no other reason than their sexuality is discrimination based on sexuality, and that's meant to be illegal.

But maybe I'm a brainwashed Stalinist. If I am, I had no idea.

I thought weddings could only happen between sunrise and sunset - or is that a restriction for church weddings only, or something that was changed?

Some people are straight and some are gay. It is very sad indeed that you seek to deny gay people their civil rights with analogies to mother / son incest.

It's sad that you insist on reading that into my post, which (very deliberately) makes no judgement on the matter of gay marriage either way.

If someone makes a stupid argument, even supporting my own leaning on a situation, I will still call it out as a stupid argument.

For instance: "some people are straight and some are gay"... so what? Some people are attracted to their parents/children/siblings. There is no logical link "some people like X" ==> "X must be OK"

I'm speculating that most of those would be unlikely to be invited in the first place.

I might go to a civil partnership ceremony, although it seems rather pointless (except to dodge inheritance tax, which I'm all in favour of!)

But I certainly wouldn't go to a gay "wedding" if they called it that. I just have a problem with the name, and trying to ape a normal wedding.

Of course you could just go out of friendship and not worry too much about it.
