No one is telling 7 year olds to shove their willies up other people's arses. I think it would be right to be concerned if they were.

At that sort of age the emphasis is on where babies come from, which is heterosexual. And the importance of a loving relationship - possibly going to the extent of that sometimes men fall in love with men and ladies with ladies.

At 14/15/16 the emphasis isn't on the how, but upon relationships, safety etc, and is much more interactive in the sense of Qs and As. I'd want a gay son to know about HIV. I'd also want him to know that it was OK to be gay. If he wanted to ask questions about the hows, then I'd be happy for a teacher to answer them. It's also important for the straight kids to learn that gay is OK.

'People like ...' seems pretty meaningless to me; who wants the practises you've named discussed with children and can you show us the evidence that they want them discussed with children?

My only concern with sex education is that I know that a number of my contemporaries were quite uncertain about their sexual identity, and dallied with both sides. Some settled on gay, some settled on straight and some stayed dallying! While perhaps some people's orientation is fixed early on, I'm sure that for many people it isn't. So to teach a child early on that if they have a same-sex attraction it means they're gay (or vice-versa) would be wrong, and I hope it doesn't actually happen.

I'd hope they wouldn't teach such outmoded concepts as gay and straight being two options from which you have to pick. That does sound harmful.

You personally might be but on a statistical level, the only way people are normally 'justified' in their gut instincts is if they read the resulting events through biased eyes, seeking to confirm their bias. Which all of us tend to do, of course.
