How many unread books do you have?

I have about 3-4 feet of them, some unwanted gifts, some that I just haven't got around to and a lot that I never will e.g. lots of "classic" works that I started on and lost interest in. As a percentage of the total number of books it's relatively low though, maybe 10-15%.

Ah yes, I didn't count that. I have a lot of free downloads on there that I'm pretty sure I'll never read a page of, probably another 50-60 books.

I've just thrown out my vast collection of Dusty Springfield books.

Now I just don't know what to do with my shelf....

I rarely buy a book unless I want to read it right away. There are books that came with the wife but I don't think that counts!

I'm more likely to read the same books over and over than buy lots of random new ones on a whim. I rescued a box of my late father's sci-fi books from the family home - those orange Penguin paperbacks mostly. A complete set of John Wyndham - falling apart but nostalgic.

I'll refer back to maths & physics books but I've never reread a novel. There doesn't seem to be a lot of point when you know what's going to happen.

I think OwlHoot will win this. I'm sure he's got about a million e-books that he has no hope of ever reading.

I have easily about 500 physical books (not counting some boxes in the garage) and about another 60 on Kindle. About 1/4 to 1/3 unread at a rough guess. I'll buy books that look interesting and line them up but I buy them faster than I can read them.

Took a load of old books to the Red Cross last year, so only about 3 unread now and I'm working my way through those.

Kept all my gothic horror books though, Lovecraft, Benson , M R James, Hope Hodgeson, Arthur Machen etc. plus my Steinbecks and Gerard Durrels. Never chuck those. Plus a few biographies of my heros, like Alistair Crowley.
