Better to go into properly prepared at the right time.Originally posted by suityou01 View PostSo better to straighten the deck chairs on the titanic then?
It's only "straightening the deck chairs on the titanic" if you believe Putin is planning on invading Europe in the next few years.
I wouldn't put my hand on heart and say he isn't as he's clearly potty, but if that is the case then a half hearted show of force now would be nothing more than Dunkirk mk II. We would need a deployment on the scale of the Iraq war or larger, and longer term we need to arm ourselves and reduce our dependence on Russian oil & gas.
At least it will give the unemployed something to do. Fight or lose your benefits. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

Precisely. Although as far as this thread goes, you and Doodab are worrying about an icecube, while I have my eye firmly fixed on the iceberg.Originally posted by The Spartan View PostNot quite it's more about avoiding a potential iceberg rather than ploughing towards it.Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.Comment

Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.
No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.Comment

No, I'm saying that steering straight for it in a mirror dinghy armed with a peashooter is a really ******* dumb idea.Originally posted by suityou01 View PostPrecisely. You should be aware NATO have already issued a statement saying the current tensions are a threat to peace and security in Europe. As in now, not a few years time.Originally posted by doodab View PostBetter to go into properly prepared at the right time.

So you agree with me then that a proper strategic response is necessary in parallel with diplomacy and we are losing time?Originally posted by doodab View PostNo, I'm saying that steering straight for it in a mirror dinghy armed with a peashooter is a really ******* dumb idea.
Or are you disagreeing with me and saying let's give diplomacy a chance as any other posturing would automatically escalate things?Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.Comment

Yes, I am aware. It's a statement. They've also repeatedly stressed the importance of dialogue, democratic process and international law. And mentioned that they aren't planning a response (although I expect that is BS and behind the scenes they are planning like crazy)Originally posted by suityou01 View PostYou should be aware NATO have already issued a statement saying the current tensions are a threat to peace and security in Europe. FWIW my house is on one of the main helicopter flight paths over south London and the Chinook activity is much greater than normal, we normally get the odd one among the civilian flights but I've had 3 or 4 go over today. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you.
