There is no need for self propelled artillery to be moved anywhere there - whatever happened in Ukraine was more of a police matter, so this is without any doubt aggressive takeover by Putin.

Anybody was watching Chelski - did cameras show Abramovich there? It's good time to start rounding up Putins rich friends and start asking them questions.

Right. So under the terms of the BM, don't we now have to get involved?

I have not read terms specifically, but even though they probably don't have explicit military involvement, the matter of fact is when such promises are made in international law you have to follow them through if you want any other promises to carry any weight. Fundamentally when somebody guarantees territorial integrity for some country that means some kind of defense against attempts to break it.

Putin is crazy because he killed lots of people in Chechnya (where number of ethnic Russians was non-existant) to maintain Russian territory, but now he says effectively - so long as there is local referendum we can take over parts of other states, that's total BS and goes completely against international framework - not even China is happy right now, even though on some of their maps parts of Russian Siberia are marked as Chinese. So crazy Putin is doing this tulip whilst having Russia exposes to exactly the same territorial claims.

Russian economy was about to go down this year even without this, ironically Crimea was holiday destination for Russians and Ukrainians, who'd go to war zone now??? Local people who called for Russian help would be totally devastated as they won't get tourists, and military folk in Russian army don't get paid that much to spend on stuff.

17:42: The UK Foreign Secretary William Hague has tweeted "we oppose decision to deploy Russian troops on Ukrainian soil against wishes of #Ukraine gov and condemn any act of aggression." In a separate tweet, he added "We support Ukrainian gov's request for urgent consultations in accordance with 1994 Budapest Memorandum signed by UK, US, Russia, #ukraine."

Talking of guarantees - Russia broke its own written guarantee to Ukraine, so it's no longer going to be trusted in any such cases, the question how if UK and USA will do the same - Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons in exchange for that.
