Giving unemployed Britons “new hope and responsibility” by Cameron

" David Cameron says he is giving unemployed Britons “new hope and responsibility” by cutting their benefit payments and claims his welfare reforms are part of a “moral mission” for the country.

In an article for the Telegraph, the Prime Minister issues a sharp rebuke to Britain’s most senior Roman Catholic, the Most Rev Vincent Nichols, who said recent changes had left many in “hunger and destitution”.

Mr Cameron argues that the Archbishop of Westminster’s criticism is “simply not true” and says the overhaul of the benefits system, led by Iain Duncan Smith, himself a practising Catholic, was about “doing what is right” and not simply “making the numbers add up”.

His comments came as Archbishop Nichols, who will be made a Cardinal later this week, stepped up his warnings over implementation of welfare reforms.

Speaking as he set off for Rome to receive the honour from Pope Francis, he said he had been “inundated” with messages from people who shared his concerns. "

Cutting benefits part of a 'moral mission', Cameron tells new Cardinal - Telegraph

Fooking hell, can't he just say - look, there is fook all money left and no more money to maintain welfare state as it was in "good times", so unless you are really disabled you'd have to work to earn a living. And less of this "new hope" BS.

did either of you watch the Benefits street discussion last night

one of the big comments that kept coming up was that people were dumped & trapped on benefits.

Anything that fixes that and allows people to respect themselves again is worth looking at.

Do you really think majority of them would really love to do jobs that don't pay a lot, possibly get LESS than benefits they are on? It's total BS to say it gives them hope, bollox - the reason for cutting benefits is that there is no more money in the coffers and debts need to be paid. So the only way for anybody who is not disabled or retired is to get a job. That's the truth and it needs to be said rather than obvious lies of "new hope and responsibility", which is nothing less but an intelligence insulting BS from the mouth of professional liar.

          a number of problems here.
          1. we are broke. (for many reasons we won't discuss right now)
          2. The benefits bill is spiralling
          3. Its better on benefits than working for many low end jobs.
          4. we are subsidising big business by giving benefits to low earners.
          5. we are crud at paying benefits we do it wrong and badly.
          6. we don't want disenfranchised people roaming the streets hungry in large numbers.
          7. Once you are on benefits its difficult to come off.
          8. If you are on benefits a long time its no good for your mental health.

they all need sorting, we can do that at the same time as lining the dishonest bankers up against the wall.

Successive governments have abused the benefits systems, either by dumping no hopers onto incapacity benefit to make the stats look better, or like Labour did use Tax Credits to try and raise an army of benefits dependents

But of course amongst all this there are plenty of innocent people who are genuinely trapped on benefits, as usual they'll suffer disproportionally as the chancers will continue to play the system

Something has to be done, but it must be pretty awful to be caught in the crossfire
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

oh FFS, I am not saying benefits should not be cut for those who are able of working - just no lies about "new hope and responsibility", that's bollox that is just insulting - no money is the honest answer, good person would understand that and get a job, and bad person does not deserve to be paid benefits.

The benefits bill is spiralling because of the state pension which no politician will touch, in fact they guarantee it's going to keep going up. Until someone grasps that nettle our finances are ****ed.

But Cameron did state in Parliament a couple of weeks ago 'money is no object.'
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.
