Not a bad result for them at all considering that this is a very safe labour seat and the by-election wasn't the result of some scandal involving the sitting MP which would result in a large protest vote against the incumbent party.

Actually, I'd forgotten all about it until I found it buried away in a corner of the Telegraph this morning. They're not giving the story much prominence. Wonder why ?
    A 28% turnout Sssssishhhh!!! I'm sure that's not important.

Indeed, it's a small percentage of not very much.

      Nothing to see here.

UKIP increased their vote by 14%.

It's a kick in the teeth for Camoron anyhow...
        Hi GG!

I must confess I see it a bit differently, and I doubt Cameron will lose much sleep over it. The LibDems used to be the party of the protest and anti-Tory votes, but being in power themselves now, UKIP is wearing their cap.

The likes of Wythenshawe would vote for Jimmy Saville if he stood against the Tories.

Plus, 14% of not very much is not very much.
Mich - as I keep saying (and this'll be the 3rd time) it wasn't a 14% swing from the government of the day was it?

Edit: though I didnt see the 28% turnout statistic. I guess that puts a slightly different perspective on it.

It doesn't matter where the swing came from; it's 14% of a small number of voters at a 28% turnout.

              Hi DS!

Wishful thinking on my part I suppose.

I'm just deluded with our current crop of politicos that's all. Rotten to the core, the whole lot of 'em.

Apart from how they got more votes than everyone else put together
