Correct. No mates. Mate free zone. If my experience of 'mates' is anything to go by I am better off without any of the parasitic scumbags.

I support 1 person beyond immediate family and that is because I like them and they follow my advice. My wife knows that volunteering my services usually results in losing a friend so she doesn't do it any more...Originally posted by Scrag Meister View PostNext time he gets a pron virus or whatever, he'll assume its free until he sees the contract you want him to sign and recieves your £80 invoice for the hour it took.merely at clientco for the entertainmentComment

I have a mate who often asks me to help him with his computer plus doing the local community website but I don't mind too much as he pays me back with bottles of Schnapps (although last time it was a liter bottle of Jack Daniels) and a few beers otherwise I just tell them I don't know much about little computers, now if they had a big, as in building size, ****-off system then I might be able to...“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment

I remember many years ago (when I was desktop/server support). One of the admin staff who used wordperfect (remember that?) all day every day asking me how to do some sort of obscure formatting on it.Originally posted by vwdan View Post
ct doesn't help that everyone is convinced that "working in IT" is defined as "desktop support". That, combined with the magical free time and our clear never ending love of fixing other peoples crap, makes things endlessly irritating. To be honest, for most people I just play the idiot and tell them I don't know how to fix it.
They were a bit miffed when I said I dont know every single feature and that they knew it better than me. As if 'IT person' means knowing every single feature of every app in the world!Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment

you pick it up via osmosis. Or common sense you just think about it which they can't be bothered about it.Originally posted by psychocandy View PostI remember many years ago (when I was desktop/server support). I had a gas fitter in to service my gas fire, he spent 15mins doing what basically looked like cleaning it then got on to discussing how his computer had gone wrong. I spent 30mins going through how to go back to a system restore point after booting it into safe mode, writing it down for him, and got billed £80+VAT
