Update from around midnight last night:
"The good news is I managed a 7.2 mile swim in 5:30 and a 208 mile cycle in 22 hours back to back. The bad news is I am out and back home. My issues started on the swim - the first 2 IM distances each came up in 1:40 - the last took 2 hours. I had not done enough long swims for training - plenty of single IM but I needed more. I slowed down and could not turn my head far enough to breathe - so I swallowed lots of lake water and got very tired. I cut my hands twice on bottom of lake(!) and cramped last lap. I could then not take on board enough fluids/sugar to get me going so struggled straight off on the bike. As I had to ditch the tri suit I had zero padding so got huge saddle sore. 2 black toenails. Midge bites everywhere exposed.
Another problem came when I had no "real" food. I did eat on Saturday but it was too late. And I was away from the circuit to eat - next time I will take tupperware full of real food.
When I had a bath and ate dinner tonight I started to shiver and shake. I am sure I picked up something from that Lake Water. And my body was not able to fight it off. My digestion does not seem to be working.
Having not done a double before I was unprepared. I need to do a double, lose a few kgs(either cut calories from 4000 to 3500 a day or better still do longer sessions).
A huge learning experience - but I am still very proud of what I achieved. 27.5 hours on exercise on the trot! Very goof swim and bike distances.
I now have to plan my strategy for the Brutal double in September. I might drop to a single - I will see how next 2 months go. I understand that a Brutal double is more like a triple. 8 laps of 28 miles, 3000 foot climb. In about 34 miles! Running up and down Snowdon at 3am. I might then look to do Enduroman double next year. Oddly today I think I would have done a double - it was that last section of swim that killed me."
Great effort, Brillo - sounds like you did the right thing.Comment

Sounds like he's going to need a bit of a lie down after that....While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

Well done BP, proud of you. I'm of the same age and know I could never do anything like that (not that I would want too though!)“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment
