So far, my current pet hate is people wanting way more experience with a product I specialise in than is reasonably possible. At first I figured I'd just ignore them, but they're so commonplace that I figure I'll just have to explain that I've only got 6 months experience with it in a production environment because it's only been production ready for 6 months...

Ok, Let's go for some .....

1. This is a really good place to work - usually tagged onto a Linkedin job post. How does the agent know? I always ignore these as its a bad indicator.

2. Market Rate - What this really means is that the agent is going to try and skim you for an extra 100 a day.

3. State your rate - Usually on a bob agents aproach, but standard on agent e-mails when they are fishing. Usually there is no information on where the role is and who the client is.

4. This company will look great on your CV - Will it? Really?

Definitely number 4. They usually say 'high profile' or 'world renowned'. In my line of work that usually means a large teaching hospital full of sociopaths. A small district general hospital is a much nicer place to work.

An Agent called me yesterday and said he had a permie role for me and when he told me the salary it was actually higher than what I'm getting as a contractor.

Try applying for it. That number will mysteriously diminish by the time the role is offered to you. Remember Agent 101! If his lips are moving he is lying.

Find out then definition of what a rolling contract actually is before you claim to be advertising one !

Jobs advertised as Project Manager which are not

My pet hate right now is the over use of the job "Project Manager".

When reading the role description it is clear it is not a PM they are looking for, in most cases it is "Team Leader", "Business Analyst", "Scrum Master" or "Project Co-ordinator".

From my daily job searches with the keyword "Project Manager" about 60% of all advertised roles I have to filter out manually because of this.

In fairness (And this is no slight on you personally) I've also noticed a gradual move to every single person who isn't technical calling themselves a "Project Manager".

In fairness (And this is no slight on you personally) I've also noticed a gradual move to every single person who isn't technical calling themselves a "Project Manager".

It does seem to be getting used as a catch all title.

Although at one place I worked at I could not figure out what a BA was, it seemed to be 'anyone who is not a developer, tester or manager but is on the team anyway'. Absolutely nothing seem to change as a result of anything they did.
