The federal government spends more per head on healthcare than the NHS does. That injected into pseudo-private healthcare in probably the most heavily regulated pharmaceutical market in the world = expensive

And now look at the effects of Obamacare - he obviously saw greenspan & bernanke fighting the effects of money printing by printing more money, and thought he'd follow suit.

It almost feels like politicians aren't qualified to centrally control trillion dollar economies

I've been in just over 2 weeks, no operations except a couple of local anaesthetic ones to put tubes in, a blood transfusion, lots of painkillers, a pile of other drugs, several x rays, ultrasounds and a CT and some chemotherapy.

Must be well over $250k, at least.

The person in this case had medical insurance. They still had to pay $11k... that's the part I don't really understand, the whole point of insurance is to cover you. That extra $11k doesn't make a massive difference to the insurance company but it does to a typical person having to potentially take time off work on top of everything else.

IIRC and I don't have a link, the typical NHS cost of an emergency admission and appendectomy (without complications) is about £2,500.
