The smacking debate

No one mentioned anything about ignoring the scum. There is a difference though between educating your children about the scum, and training them to be scum. -
Please answer the question.Originally posted by SpontaneousOrder View PostYes, I agree that it is a very real prospect. But presumably the more you put respect and violence hand in hand, the more likely it is your kid will end up in those exact social circles where he's about to get in an unnecessary fight because he 'disrespected' someone or something, as opposed to the more civilised circles where tossers just end up lonely.

Only recall slapping one of mine once when he bit me, entirely instinctive as it really hurt. Really it isn't necessary, a darn good shouting at works perfectly well.bloggoth

Chortle!Originally posted by NotAllThere View Post... the use of the word "retard" to indicate a stupid person is incredibly offensive to those who have, for example, children with learning difficulties and you should hang your head in shame for upsetting your parents like that. ...
I always think people who want to ban smacking and caning of kids are simply showing their own conceit, boasting almost in a roundabout and sanctimonious way, because in effect they are assuming or trying to imply that the younger generation, or their own kids, are weaker than themselves and could never benefit as they doubtless did from being smacked or caned.Work in the public sector? well interesting that Child Tsar - has two stepchildren - so never actually had her own kid then?
well straight away you can dismss the story as bull $h!t because she has no real world experience.
but it is down to you as a parent - and you know what if you take out extreme cases of child abuse and battering there is often very little difference in the outcome of a child who had a lot more physical disipline to those that do not (and by this I mean smacking is a common type of punishment as opposed to time out/confiscation of toy etc)Comment

I'd love to have an unlimited amount of time to deal with each transgression or pushing the boundary with a long winded discussion about reasoning or consequences or working together to ensure the family unit as a whole is well represented or a child who wont sit on the aughty step and keeps coming back into the room blah blah blah, but frankly sometimes a good smack on the legs ends the constant negotiations. At the end of the day force / smacking is required. Ask Tony Blair. What happens in General, stays in General. You know what they say about assumptions!Comment

And following on from the cuk norm of being a twunt, I wish to suggest that everyone can bring up their kids as they choose APART from EO. Just to annoy him. <snigger>Comment
