On some long term contracts, agents will put you forward pending SC. But there are many short term ones where the agent will not bother unless you have SC. The MOD is annoyed to say the least because the MOD builds in a financial allowance into the supplies contract for the expense in getting SC. If the supplies are pockets the allowance rather than spending it on security clearance than the MOD should know. Also there are stipulations in the contract that they will not discriminate between SC and none SC personnel so that the right person will be engaged. If agents and supplies are braking the MOD rules then report them.

"A people that elect corrupt politicians, imposters, thieves and traitors are not victims, but accomplices," George Orwell -
Well Malvolio is getting the same feedback as me.
I had SC but it lapsed 3 months ago...
Now I don't even get passed the first hurdle...."Are you currently cleared?"Comment
-
Why don't you ...
Ring the person whose name appears at the top or bottom of your clearance (assuming you have an electronic or hard copy which you should have been given) and ask them if they are willing to extend it as you are being put forward for a similar role. If they know you, they might even vouch for you.Comment

But my beef is with the Agents.........Comment

Ignore the optimists, it's nothing to do with MOD, it's the intermediate major consultancy that's doing the job. They don't want to waste time escorting uncleared staff, so they ony take cleared ones. The agencies merely do what their paymasters tell them while tryuing to pay lip-service to the rules so they don't get sued.
Go for a role with a real governemnt client and clearance is not an issue at all, but as soon as an IT-Projects-R-Us is in the loop, you're stuffed. And since almost all IT investment in HMG is now via PFIs and external contractors... Understand?
It's nothing to do with security, it's all to do with margins.Blog? What blog...?Comment

If you are the best man for the job or the only man applying then they will put you forward.
I do not have SC but have been put forward for SC jobs and the client is willing to wait.

Shame you are not up to that kind of comitment. You might try McDonalds or Asda. You should get security cleared for them and you might even be qualified.I am not qualified to give the above advice!

I can't get SC due to having lived abroad for more than 3 of the last 5 years. Current client has moved mountains to get me in at BC only.
