Do what i did, take a tulip permy job that requires SC and hand in your notice the day after your clearance comes through, I had a DV role lined up that required SC as a proviso.

I have also heard of a dodgy x list agent with fictitious contracts that will clear you for a fee but that was a few years ago now and i not sure its still posable.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Shame you are not up to that kind of comitment. You might try McDonalds or Asda. You should get security cleared for them and you might even be qualified.

Well if we are to take Security Clearance seriously I would say you are a risk!!
And would not be comfortable with you doing SC work without SC clearance, just cos Bob in accounts knows you from the Dog and Duck Pub quiz team!!

Ah, but did you know the guy that designed the algorithms that run the high-security firewalls used across the MOD to secure their networks is an East European, both of whose parents worked for the KGB? Oddly enough, he hasn't got clearance either.

It works the other way as well. Not so long ago I was in a meeting discussing a helpdesk integration project: I couldn't know who the desk supported, where they were located, who they reported to, what tools they used and what their SLAs were like. Made for a strangely one-sided conversation...

Look here chaps, whenever they ask if you've clearance, just say yes. Once you're in they'll sort it out PDQ (or escort you offsite).

              HTH

Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

                Guess which...

Also, you would be liable to prosecution under the OSA. So perhaps not such a good idea.

Has anyone with lapsed SC had problems getting SC contracts? That is, you were SC, but have worked for 1+ years elsewhere on a non-secure site.

I'm in this position, and I'm hoping that agents/clients will put me on nearly the same footing as candidates with current SC since I'm as good as certain to get future clearance, and it will be granted quickly (and cheaply) too.

A bit late but welcome to the party...

That is the whole point. I still have SC clearance and am being turned down for roles by the agency since their client has stipulated they want people with current clearance. There was an ad on Jobserve today from deal old Computer People saying don't try if you haven't got live clearance - and that was for a permie PM role, where there is absolutely no excuse.

Be prepared for a really frustrating time.

                      Bollocks!

I had the opportunity to jump ship and get back in the SC camp, but I took a renewal and now I'm over the (1 year) limit

However, I do have a good agency contact who specialises in SC and who still talks to me. If you're London-based then let me know and I can put you in touch.
